My name is John Varde. I have been a lawyer for over 30 years.During that time, I have handled many types of matters for individuals, families and small businesses. I have chosen to concentrate on my favorite areas of the law – estate planning, probate, and will and trust litigation. This is because I enjoy working with clients, helping them understand how to take control and protect their families upon their death or incapacity.
Committed to using my experience and expertise to help my clients overcome the obstacles to creating the peace of mind that comes from having an estate plan, based on their special circumstances and concerns. I graduated with honors from the DePaul University College of Law in 1981. My undergraduate degree is from Purdue University in Chemical Engineering. Before entering law school, I worked as a design engineer in a family-owned business, where I first came to understand the needs and issues of a small business owner.
I’m licensed to practice law in Illinois and conduct my law practice through John M. Varde, P.C., which is a partner in the law firm of Schofield & Varde, LLP. Since graduating from DePaul, I have lived and worked in Chicago. And am a member of the Chicago Bar Association and the Illinois State Bar Association.
I am married to Rebecca and have an adult daughter, Kate, and a new grandson, Schueler.

I like to work with my hands. I’ve built a variety of furniture, mostly in the arts and crafts style. Lately, I’ve been intrigued by building automata, which are wooden mechanical devices and toys. The following videos show some of the toys and models in action.
